The Vegan Society

The much trusted sunflower logo signifies approval from The Vegan Society, an educational body which promotes living life free from animal products for the benefit of animals, people and the planet…

The Vegan Society has been in existence since 1944, supporting its members and all those who wish to replace or reduce animal products in their diets.

Today the society provides expert advice and guidance to those wishing to follow or maintain a vegan lifestyle, excluding, as far as possible and practical, all forms of exploitation of animals.

The society works to encourage manufacturers to produce more vegan-friendly goods and has established the sunflower logo as a trademark promoting vegan products and services.

The sunflower logo is a registered trademark and symbol of the society’s 'Animal-free' standards. It appears on thousands of animal free products which have been registered and approved with the society and which meet the following standards:

The manufacture and/or development of the product, and where applicable its ingredients, must not involve, or have involved, the use of any animal product, by-product or derivative.
The development and/or manufacture of the product, and where applicable its ingredients, must not involve, or have involved, testing of any sort on animals conducted at the initiative of the manufacturer or on its behalf, or by parties over whom the manufacturer has effective control.
The development and/or production of genetically modified organisms (GMO) must not have involved animal genes or animal-derived substances. Products put forward for registration which contain or may contain any GMOs must be labelled as such.

Bjobj cosmetics are tested on volunteers, in cooperation with the University of Studies of Pavia to ensure the highest safety and tolerability. The patch test consists in the application of a patch (the test was named after it) soaked with the substance to test to the volunteers, and observe possible skin variations to evaluate the results with scientific criteria. All the bjobj products have turned out to be NON IRRITATING to the patch test, which is a further guarantee to our customers, that our products are skin-compatible.

Nickel is a white silvery metal often used with other alloys to produce very resistant materials (such as some steels, etc.). Nickel is often featured in everyday’s use objects, such as costume jewellery, and often we come across without even knowing. Even some vegetables, such as zucchini, asparagus, carrots, onions etc. are rich in nickel. Nickel is not a dangerous metal, but some people are allergic. These people have to avoid carefully to touch even small amounts of nickel.
Case studies say that, with regard to cosmetic products, the level that shouldn’t originate any allergic reactions is lower than 1 PPM, which means less than one Part Per Million, alias 0,000001. As a matter of fact TOTALLY nickel-free cosmetics do not exist, the "NICKEL FREE" mark is often followed by an asterisk indicating a maximum value of the nickel content.
In order to give our nickel-allergic or sensitive users a further guarantee, the bjobj cosmetics undergo a test ON EVERY SINGLE BATCH PRODUCED (the tests are performed by an external laboratory), in order to detect the smallest trace of nickel and ensuring therefore that the content of the product is lower than the threshold indicated. We deem it is very important to perform the nickel test on all the production batches. All the tests performed up to now (hundreds nowadays) confirm that the nickel percentage in the bjobj products is far below 1 PPM, sometimes even 10 times lower.

Legambiente is an Italian environmentalist association with roots in the anti-nuclear movement that developed in Italy and throughout the Western world in the second half of the '70s. Founded in 1980 as part of the ARCI, it later became and a stand-alone organisation. Originally known as Lega per l'ambiente (League for the Environment), it changed name during the IV National Congress held in Parma in 1992 to avoid confusion with other movements, especially with the 'Lega' political party.

In more than thirty years of activity, Legambiente organized environmental monitoring campaigns in Italy (Green Schooner, Green Train, and others) and activities of voluntary (Clean Beaches, Clean Up the World).

Legambiente organized environmental education campaigns, promoted and increased the mobilization against smog and referendums of 1987 and 2011 against the nuclear energy, fought against illegal building and lifted the veil on the illegal dumping of waste and the action of ecomafie, with an annual report on environmental crimes related to the activities of criminal organizations.

The association promotes, among other things, the use of alternative energy and renewable energy, the energy conservation, the preservation of some protected areas, fighting illegal waste management. It annually processes an accurate analysis of the situation of ' environment in Italy with the Ambiente Italia report.

Since 2004 Legambiente organizes Voler Bene all'Italia, an initiative for the protection and enhancement of the municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants, which constitute an important part of the historical and cultural Italian.

In July 2010 we launched our new line of bjobj Shower Creams. The bottles of this line are in 100% recycled PET (R-PET), a used plastic material (plastic water bottles) that, after the selective waste collection, is recycled to make our bottles. Thanks to the collaboration with a serious and reliable Company we succeeded in having a recycled material with chemical, physical, visual and safety properties very close to those of virgin PET. Furthermore, this material can be recycled many more times, avoiding the use and immission into the environment of further plastic material. Our goal in the months to come will be to replace gradually, where possible, the bjobj cosmetics packages with Recycled PET.

We will start with 250 ml bottles that will become, from transparent with transparent top, to white (Recycled PET) with a green top. Obviously this is just a starting point to improve and to investigate further on more ecologic materials for our packaging.

The ecology of our planet depends on every small step we take.
